Hum Ek Hein - 1946
The 1946 film Hum Ek Hein is unique for different things. Directed by P. L. Santoshi it was the debut film of the evergreen star of Indian cinema, Dev Anand whose romantic persona, wonderful dialogue rendering and mannerisms engrossed the audience for several decades.
The film also featured debutants Rehman, Rehana, and Kamala Kotnis, along with the legendary Durga Khote. Another interesting fact of the film was that the renowned actor/director/producer Guru Dutt had involved in this film as the choreographer.
The film depicted the tensions of religious disharmony that existed in the late 40s prior to the partition represented by the disunity within the family. Produced by Prabhat Film Company the music for the film was composed by Husnlal and Bhagatram, considered to be the first pair of music directors in Indian Film Industry. The lyrics were written by P. L. Santoshi himself and some of the famous songs from this film are Ho nadiya kinarey mora saawarey and Meri aayi hai teen bhabhiyaan.
