Written, produced and directed by Dev Anand, Hare Rama Hare Krishna (1971) is a look at the hippie scene that dominated pop-culture in the 70’s.
With its free-wheeling sex, drugs and rock n roll lifestyle, the hippie subculture consumed many youngsters of the day and left many homes broken. It is often said that the film is Dev Anand’s interpretation of the hippie lifestyle was inspired by the true story of Jasbir, a hippie girl he met in Nepal.
Starring Dev Anand, Zeenat Aman and Mumtaz in lead roles, the film was a super hit. Music by R.D Burman, the famous song from the film is “Dum maro dum”.
