Bandhan - 1940
A Bombay Talkies film directed by N.R. Acharya, Bandhan was the second highest grossing Indian film of 1940. Ashok Kumar and Leela Chitnis appear in the lead role. It is on of the three films – the other two being Nangan and Jhoola, that paired Ashok and Leela in the lead roles, often considered as a trilogy that turned Ashok into a matinee idol.
Music of this film was composed by Saraswati Devi. The song Chal Chal Ke Naujawan written by Kavi Pradeep, became an all time hit and was almost raised to the status of a national song especially during the time when Indian Freedom movement was at its zenith.
