Devdas - 1955

Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic novel Devdas has undergone several adaptations in television, theater and celluloid. The 1995 film version directed by Bimal Roy stands out among them for several things.

The film stars Dilip Kumar, Vyjayanthimala and Suchitra Sen in lead roles. Motilal, Nazir Hussain, Murad, Pratima Devi, Iftekhar and Shivraj also made their presence on screen. The music department was handled by S.D. Burman and Sahir Ludhianvi. The film won the Certificate of Merit for the Third Best Feature Film in Hindi in the 3rd National Film Awards.
