Patna University, Bihar
Established in 1917, the Patna University is the first university of Bihar and seventh oldest university in the Indian subcontinent. The university was established during the British Raj (British rule) and the authority of the university was extended to Bihar, Odisha, and the Kingdom of Nepal.
A reputed institution, this old university oversaw various examinations for ranging from school finals to the postgraduate levels. This continued almost for four decades, until the establishment of the Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, and the Utkal University, Bhubaneshwar.
On January 2, 1952 it was converted into a purely teaching -cum-residential University with the territorial jurisdiction over Metropolitan Patna. Today, this prestigious university has several colleges and institutions which cover areas of study including law, teacher training, science, arts, commerce, medicine and engineering.
