Champaran Satyagraha - the first Satyagraha of Gandhiji
Champaran, a district in the state of Bihar, is an important part of the Indian history as it’s the place where Gandhiji performed his first Satyagraha as part of the freedom struggle of India. The agitation started when the farmers of Champaran were forced to grow indigo instead of food crops which they badly needed for survival.
Gandhi arrived in Champaran on 10 April 1917 with a team of eminent lawyers and then started the historical protest. Featured here is the first meeting place of Champaran Satyagraha.
