Buddha's Relic Stupa in Vaishali
The relic stupa of Buddha is a monument erected to commemorate the spiritual teacher who spread Buddhism across the world. The Stupa 1 or Relic Stupa is one among the eight other Relic Stupas built over the physical remains of Buddha.
It was originally a small mud stupa measuring 8.07 meters in diameter raised in 5th century B.C. The excavations were made here during the year 1958 by Kashi Prasad Jayaswal Research Institute.
Vaishali, an ancient city in the state of Bihar, is the place where Gautama Buddha preached his last sermon before his death in ca 483 BCE.
