Preparation of Ghruta, the Ayurvedic ghee
Ayurveda, the ancient medical system of India, believes that health exists when there is a balance between three fundamental humours- Vata, Pitta and Kapha. The medication, thus, aims to reestablish the lost equilibrium between these three Doshas.
In Ayurveda, drugs have been grouped into several categories depending on their pharmacological actions and therapeutic use. The Ayurvedic medicines are prepared from natural sources alone. The Dravyas (substances) derived from animal, metal and vegetable sources are purified through a process called Shodhana and are converted into a variety of medicines.
In the video, the preparation of Ghruta, the medicated ghee, is seen. It is prepared by heating ghee that has been mixed with medicine to the consistency of a Thaila (medicated oil).
