Umananda Island
Assam, one of the north-eastern state in India, is famous for its river islands. Of these Majuli, is the largest. Umananda, otherwise known as the Peacock Island, is the smallest river island in the world. Both these islands are located in the Brahmaputra River, one of the largest rivers in the world.
The river island of Umananda is famous for its Shiva temple. As it is located in the middle of the Brahmaputra River, people have to take a ferry from the Umananda Ghat or Kacheri Ghat on the mainland to reach the temple. Umananda Island is located near Guwahati, the largest city in Assam.
