Silk Spinning in Sualkuchi, Assam
This video shows silk spinning in Sualkuchi (or Soalkuchi) in the silk village of Assam, a north-eastern state in India. Silk is a natural fibre obtained from the cocoon of the silkworm and silk production is technically known as sericulture.
Sualkuchi is situated in Kamrup district of Assam, on the banks of the River Brahmaputra. This village is the major producer of silk within the state of Assam. Muga, Pat and Eri are the high quality silk varieties produced in this village.
