Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati, Assam
Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra is a platform for the promotion of traditional Assamese dance, music and theatre. It is an institute where one can enjoy and learn the various art forms of Assam as well as other Indian states. It is named after Sankardev, a Vaishnav saint, poet, scholar, social reformer and preacher largely responsible for the fifteenth century Assamese renaissance.
It is located by the Shillong road in the Panjabari district in Guwahati and began functioning in 1998. The Kalakshetra houses a museum, an art gallery and an open air theatre.
