The hermitage of Sage Basistha
Basistha Ashram, located on Sandhya Chal Hill near Guwahati is the hermitage of sage Basistha, where he is believed to have carried out his penances, meditating upon Lord Shiva. According to Hindu mythology, Sage Basistha was one of the Saptarishis (seven great sages). He was also the teacher of Lord Sri Rama.
Nearby this hermitage one can see three streams named Sandhya, Lalita, and Kana flowing together. Inside the ashram there is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva which was built by King Rajeshwar Singh of Ahom dynasty.
