Mukura Mudra
According to Hasthalakshanadeepika, the classical treatise on dances, there are 24 basic mudras or hand signs used in Kerala dances. These Mudras are used in the classical dance dramas of Kerala, like Kathakali, Kutiyattam, Nangiarkoothu, Mohiniyattam and Ottanthullal.
The index and the little finger held straight, bending forward the ring and the middle finger, curving the thumb under them is Mukura.
Some signs shown in the Mukura mode using both palms indicate :
Fangs of animals, pangs of separation, ankle, waist, the Vedas, brother, pillar, grindstone, hasty person, ghost and growth.
One palm indicates : A foe, bee, light rays, anger, goodness, bangles, neck, shoulder ornament and denial.
