Palm wine tapping in Prattipad, Andhra Pradesh
Palm wine also called as palm toddy is a popular beverage in Asia and Africa. This video taken from the rustic backdrop of Prattipad a village in Andhra Pradesh features the activities of a traditional palm wine tapper. The tools and paraphernalia he uses to climb are quite different from that used by tappers in other south Indian states.
A cut is made on the flower of the palm tree to which he fastens a pot to collect the wine. The sweet white liquid that comes initially will be non-alcoholic before it is fermented.
