The aqueduct at Panighat, situated near Bambooflat Jetty on the foothills of Mount Harriet National Park in South Andaman, is now monument which tells the story of a glorious past.
Raised from the surrounding by arch shaped structure made of red bricks and lime mortar, aqueduct is used for transporting water. Constructed by British Government, the fresh water from the catchment used to flow through the aqueduct and get collected in the pond near Panighat Jetty. And from the pond the water is supplied to the visiting ships and later used for drinking purpose by the locals.
