The beautiful Ananthapura Lake Temple
In the calm Ananthapura Lake and amidst the beautiful greenery, is the magnificent temple dedicated to Ananthapadmanabha swami (Lord Vishnu) in the Kasaragod or Kasargod district of Kerala, India. This is the only lake temple in Kerala, the original seat of the renowned Sree Padmanabha swami of Thiruvananthapuram.
Sree Padmanabha (Lord Vishnu), seated on Anantha, the serpent god is the presiding deity here. The shrine is ancient and is enclosed by a chuttambalam (an enclosed verandah running around the sanctum sanctorum), the walls of which are adorned by murals. The temple lake is also home to a crocodile, which is said to be the guard of the temple.
