Dhanyamladhara - streaming of medicinal liquid in Ayurveda
Dhanyamladhara literally means a ‘dhara’ or pouring of a medicinal liquid called Dhanyamlam over the patient’s body. Cereals with highly nutritious starch content like Navara rice or millet are used to make the liquid. The dhanyamlam is poured in a small stream over the patient’s body from a nozzled pitcher (kindi) and diseases caused by the derangement of vata humour are treated with dhanyamla. This belongs to the Purvakarma section prior to the Panchakarma treatment.
