Sree Pisharikkavu Bhagavathy temple is located at Kollam, approx. 28 kilometers from Kozhikode town. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi are the main deities here.
Festival Fireworks
The video presents the colourful display of fireworks, a major attraction of the annual festival held here. Kaaliyattam is an important ritual connected with this eight-day festival.
On the Kaaliyattam day, the Naandakam Vaal (a sword) is ceremoniously taken out of the temple atop caparisoned elephant.
About fifteen caparisoned elephants take part in the procession and traditional drum ensembles is another highlight.
Aarppu Vili (boisterous shouting on auspicious occasions) is held as a ritual during the festival.
Ancient Temple
The temple has two sanctum sanctorums and many sub shrines. This centre of worship finds a mention in Kottarathil Sankunni’s famed book Aithihyamala (a collection of Kerala legends).
The ancient murals and exquisite wood carvings here are also noteworthy.
