Nangiarkoothu - classical dance of Kerala
Nangiarkoothu is a classical dance drama of Kerala in South India. It is performed by Nangyar or Nangiar, the female members of the Chakyar or Chakiar community, the traditional Koothu performers.
Nangiarkoothu is a solo performance, staged in temple theatre called Koothambalam. Stories taken up for performance are that of Lord Krishna.
The story is conveyed through songs and elaborate mudras which are similar to that of Kutiyattam. Mizhavu, a large percussion instrument accompanies the performance.
