Vishu Kaineettam
Vishu, the harvest festival of Kerala, celebrates the spirit of abundance- may it be of nature, well-being or wealth. Once the harvest is over, the villages get a new lease of life and this vibrancy is reflected in Vishu. One can never separate the rustic and agrarian elements from this auspicious festival.
Vishu Kaineettam is an important ritual associated with the Vishu celebrations. It is a gift of money given to children by the elder members of the family. Clad in new dresses, children receive this gift, which they had awaited for one whole year. Both the spirits of prosperity and the sharing of the sumptuousness are reflected in this ritual.
