The Rang Mahal, Red Fort
The Rang Mahal inside the Red Fort is exceptional for its rich architectural and decorative treatment. It is also called Painted House and is known as the jewel of Shah Jehan’s seraglio.
The central hall of the palace is divided into fifteen bays by ornamental piers. Its ceiling was of silver and walls were of gilt and colour. The eastern wall of the building has windows overlooking the river Yamuna.
A water-channel, called the Nahr-i-Bihisht ('Stream of Paradise'), ran down through the middle of it, with a central marble basin fitted with an ivory fountain.
