Produced by “Prabhat Film Co.” under the direction of V. Shantaram. The film, Maya Machindra was screen version of Mani Shankar Trivedi’s stage play – “SIDDHA SANSAR”.
The film was simultaneously made in Hindi as well as Marathi. Music was composed by Govindrao Tembe. The film was a musical hit, Tembe’s own rendering “Chhod aakash ko…” becoming immortal and carried over to this age.
Govindrao Tembe, Master Vinayak, Baburao Pendharkar, Durga Khote etc. were in the key roles of this fantasy film. Story of a man hating women dwelling kingdom and the ‘illusions’ in life. A disciple of the tantric guru marrying the queen and the consequences.
Special effects was high point of this fantasy film. Camera travels adopted by Keshavrao Dhaibar amused and mesmerized the audience. Box office hit in Hindi as well as Marathi. Spectacular sets was another attraction. For the first time Shantaram experimented successfully optical superimposition of animated sparks coming out of swords. Spectacular dances particularly the vasantotsav – an attraction.
